Assistant Trainer
I grew up in the middle of midwest suburbia. I have always loved horses and have in some manner been around them. While I didn’t own my own horses growing up, I would spend my free time going to barns and big stables and mucking out stalls, grooming and wherever I could do to get ride time on someones horses. It is also how I started to train for horse shows, working to pay for my ride time and training from the local trainers where I lived.
Due to my advancement and dedication to riding, I ended up with the opportunity to start riding for some of the local owners in horse shows professionally. I have been doing this for about two years now. While this is not the first professional style of competitions I have done, I was already an accomplished figure skater. Having that experience under my belt already has allowed me to be an effective coach and trainer for students, both adults and children.
My best experience lies with English riding. I have quite the background in that from stadium jumping, hunter hack, hunt seat and flat work. While my passion is for English riding, due to its elegance and sophistication, I have dabbled my feet in other riding disciplines. I love to ride western pleasure and equitation. I have done some Western pattern work and enjoy running barrels from time to time.
That’s not the only thing I know how to do with horses however! I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to work with Liberty training for a previous owner. We would put the Mini Horses through quite extensive Liberty tricks and take those Mini’s to children’s homes and hospitals as well as parties to show them off. It made me really enjoy the idea of Circus Arts and start to explore the idea of Vaulting and Gymnastics on Horseback.
As far as horses go, I have ridden just about everything under the sun and none of it scares me. From the ones that need to be colt started, to the older horse that just needs to be exercised there is not one I don’t love. I was lucky enough to be able to work some of the Midwest’s premiere Arabian horses when I lived out there and now I am beyond thrilled to be working at Dupont Derby with the horses at the Mini Farm.
I will be taking the beginners through their paces as the lessons start happening at the farm and I am excited to be teaching english and western at the farm. I also am going to be teaching low level stadium jumping and hunters hack. My goal is to help provide a solid base for my students to really thrive! Horses and riders should be able to work as one and I aim to provide that expertise to my students.
My own current goals is to work on more flatwork and Dressage. I am lucky to have the opportunity to work on Dressage with Three Karat’s Kat, a Second Level Dressage horse and we plan on turning the showing season up on its ear.
